As part of out Destination Tweed Project, our TweedWATCH project aims to provide opportunities for children and young people to learn about and connect with the River Tweed.
We are currently developing a Primary school programme that includes a selection of science based workshops that engage children with the work of Tweed Forum and the importance of a river habitat.
We will also support schools completing their John Muir Awards with activities on site at Old Melrose and in their school’s local green spaces or school grounds. It is also our hope to set up a Junior Rangers programme (or multiple groups) that focuses on developing practical green skills as well as a youth forum which will give young people an opportunity to have their voice heard on environmental issues and help them to develop soft skills like attending meetings and presenting.
We also plan to develop a skills and training programme to help young people boost their CVs and find employment in the environmental or heritage sector.
