At Scottish Borders Rape Crisis Centre, we provide emotional and practical support, information and advocacy to survivors who have experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in their lives. We offer one to one support sessions at the Centre or in safe outreach venues across the Scottish Borders. We can also offer telephone, email, text or online support to survivors. We also offer advocacy support for survivors who have engaged or are considering engaging with the criminal justice system following a sexual crime. This service is available to survivors who have experienced recent and historical sexual violence. Our Unity service is available to all young people of any gender/gender identity aged between 12-18. Our Sunrise service is for self-identifying females aged 18+. We accept self-referrals and referrals from any third party as long as the referrer has the consent of the survivor to refer them.

Tweed Forum

As part of out Destination Tweed Project, our TweedWATCH project aims to provide opportunities for children and young people to learn about and connect with the River Tweed. We are currently developing a Primary school programme that includes a selection of science based workshops that engage children with the work of Tweed Forum and the importance of a river habitat. We will also support schools completing their John Muir Awards with activities on site at Old Melrose and in their school’s local green spaces or school grounds. It is also our hope to set up a Junior Rangers programme (or multiple groups) that focuses on developing practical green skills as well as a youth forum which will give young people an opportunity to have their voice heard on environmental issues and help them to develop soft skills like attending meetings and presenting. We also plan to develop a skills and training programme to help young people boost their CVs and find employment in the environmental or heritage sector.

Tweed Foundation

The Tweed Foundation engages people of all ages with the river Tweed. Our broad educational programme includes – our schools initiative “Go Wild For Fish”, our angling initiative “TweedStart”, visiting shows and attending events. Go Wild For Fish started in 2019 and encompasses all the work we do with schools throughout the Tweed catchment. We offer short sessions and longer projects in which classes will learn about the River Tweed and the diverse animals and plants living in it. We offer sessions for different age groups and all of our lesson plans fit in with both the Scottish and English curriculums. TweedStart aims to get people throughout the Tweed catchment fishing. With particular emphasis on young people, it encourages children to take an interest in the ecology, nature and future of the river and alerts them to the importance of a healthy river system for angling. By offering both school-based sessions and TweedStart days – in which young people get an introduction to fishing with the help of fully qualified angling instructors – TweedStart provides a great opportunity for people to get into fishing.”
